Middle School

"Our aim is to have a seamless transition from Junior to Middle School, whilst providing a learning journey which prepares our students for the challenges of Year 11, and beyond."

Mr Mann is an Assistant Principal and in charge of the Middle School

Years 7 and 8

Here, we continue the Junior School's home room approach, with the same teacher responsible for the Core Subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Additionally, students have 'taster' courses throughout the year in the following areas: Technology (Hard Materials, Food, and Fabric), Graphics, Music, Art, Drama, and Computer Studies.

Year 9

As an Area School, we are able to adapt the curriculum to suit the needs of our students. Currently, we have one 'home room' class in Year 9, and one class which moves around the school, having different teachers for each subject. The Core Subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and PE. In addition to this, students continue with the 13 week 'taster' courses offered in Years 7 and 8. This comprises those subjects offered above, as well as an extra Numeracy and Literacy class.

Year 10

In preparation for N.C.E.A. in Year 11, Year 10 students have subject-specialist teachers for all of their lessons. The Core Subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and PE. By dividing this small year group into two sets, we have been able to offer a focus group of students Literacy and Numeracy booster lessons. In addition to the Core Subjects, students select four further options from the following list: Technology (Hard Materials, Food, and Fabric), Music/Drama, Art and Computer Studies. They study their first two options for the first half of the academic year, before switching to their second option choices for the remaining half.
