Dear Parents
Blessing of the Administration Block
We have been experiencing some differing views about the appropriate time for the blessing of the new building, and different times have been appearing in different print media. We have now fixed on 6:30am.
A blessing of the new building will take place on Monday 25 May at approx 6:30am. The official opening will take place on July 20.
Car Boot Sale
The poor weather outlook for last weekend forced the organisers to postpone this event from last weekend. Hopefully the weather gods will smile this time as we try again:
Car boot sale held on the school grounds on Sunday 17 May, starting at 9:00am. Prepay your spot by booking at the office for just $10.00. Coffee, tea and cakes will be available along with a sausage sizzle. All funds will go towards the school ball. This event will happen – court area if fine or in the hall if wet.
Uniform Reminder
I would like to remind all parents that the uniform code is fixed and quite clear. It does not include T-shirts showing under the uniform top, or extra non-uniform jerseys or jackets and coats.
With the onset of the colder weather, there has been an increase in the appearance of some of these non-standard items.
The school now has a uniform jacket which is available in all sizes.
Students are being reminded of their responsibilities with respect to wearing the correct uniform, and also being reminded that incorrect items will be confiscated. Persistent offenders will lose free time.
Dangerous practices
Some of our students have taken to throwing objects around at break times. While we are policing this at school, I would ask that parents take the opportunity to reinforce the message that this is a dangerous practice which can lead to serious injury.
PTA
A small but enthusiastic group met last evening to discuss plans for the future. The group were bought up to date with the current and future building plans. Watch this space for news of a Moto-cross event we will host later in the year. Be at the next meeting to help plan for that event!
Forty Hour Famine
A reminder for students who wish to sign up to participate in the 40 hour famine must first get approval from home and then will be given a record book. The famine weekend is 22 to 24 May, and all money raised must be in school by the end of the term (July 3). Last year the school raised just over $1000 and it would be good to think we can do better this year.
This year the money will be going to support children’s education and food supply in selected African and Asian countries.
Congratulations
The following students have been selected to trial for places in the Pukekohe Netball Rep teams:
Caryn Strang, Celine Fenton, Terri Williams, Margo Strydom, Hester Gerrand. We congratulate these girls and wish them well in their trials.
Moto-cross team
Another first for Onewhero in 2009 – we have a team of riders lining up to compete in a school Moto-cross event, which will run this weekend. The team will compete at Ardmore on Sunday.
Junior Social
The Student Council is hosting a social for junior students on Friday 22 May, starting at 6:00pm. It will finish as 8:00pm and will be an opportunity for young students to have a great time together.
Junior students are those from Year 1 to Year 6. Cost will be $3 per child and $5 for two in a family and $6 per family of 3 or more.
The evening will begin with a sausage sizzle ($1.50) so that you can have a rest from making dinner. Drinks (20c) and snacks will be available for sale during the evening.
Attention all drivers
I would like to urge all parents to be very careful when either driving along Hall Road or backing out from the parks. This is a very busy section of road and special care needs to be taken. We have had a number of close shaves reported in recent weeks.

Principal

DANCE SCHOOL
Cherie Petrea School of Dance
Our little ballet girls are moving up a level so we can take in a new group of 5-6yr olds who have never danced before. This is a fun pre-ballet class introducing basic concepts such as toe pointing, left and right and posture. We also have room for 7 year olds and older with some dance experience to join our group who are now preparing for their Initial Ballet exam.
The classes are held at the Onewhero Scout Hall, which is walking distance from the school, after school on Wednesdays (currently).
A full term commitment of $5/child/lesson is required and is non-refundable.
