Dear Parents
Bus behaviour
A number of reports are coming to hand about a deterioration of behaviour on some of the bus routes. All the students have been spoken to at the most recent assembly and the expectations of the school have been laid out clearly.
Students are expected to stay seated until the bus stops at their stop, to avoid eating on the bus at all, and to ensure nothing is thrown on the bus or out of the bus at any stage.
Students who persistently will not follow these guidelines put the rest of the travellers at risk through potential driver distraction. Such students will be removed from the bus for a period of time.
It is timely to remind everyone that bus travel is a privilege and not a right.
Road Safety
Once again it is timely for me to remind all parents that the road outside the school is a very busy place, and especially at 3pm each week day. Parents who have arrived to collect students must do so from the school side of the road, rather than expect students to cross the road to the car. Each years there are near misses as students attempt to cross.
Also, I would take this opportunity to remind parents that the speed limit past a stationary school bus is 20kph. Please keep your speed well down when moving along Hall Rd.
School Speech Contest
The school speech contest will take place next Wednesday 3 June starting at 1pm. The venue will be the school hall and all parents are welcome to attend. We will begin with Year 5 and 6 students, followed by Years 7 and 8 and then speakers from Years 9 to 13.
Book Fair
The Book Fair continues in the library until next Tuesday – excluding Monday 2nd June which is Queens birthday. The library is open each day during the Book Fair until 3.30pm. You are welcome to come and view and/or purchase books that are for sale.

Senior School Exams
The students in exam classes from Year 11 to 13 will be sitting practice exams during the week of June 2 to 5. There is no exam leave during this time and all students are expected to attend school every day, all day. The students have all been given an exam timetable, and exams are set for morning sessions. Afternoon sessions, and all students not in exam classes will be following a normal school timetable.
Counties/Manukau Cross Country
Three students competed at the Counties/Manukau cross-country event. The results were very good, especially considering that there were over 200 students involved.
The results are as follows:
Evie Moth 17th Intermediate Girls
Chanelle Lawson 13th Junior Girls
Quinton Keightley 33rd Junior Boys
Congratulations to all runners.
Moto-cross team
Congratulations too, to the riders who took part in the Secondary School’s Motocross event held at Ardmore recently. The following students gained places:
Jayden Turnwald 1st 10 – 13yr old section
Tony Botica 2nd 14-16 yr old section
Neil Edgecombe, Leo Allely and Lee Carpenter also took part and their placings have helped to promote the team to a positive position. We are awaiting confirmation of the final team placement. However, in a field of over 400 riders from close to 100 schools, Onewhero’s riders performed very well indeed.
Greenie Awards
The following students gained a lunch voucher from Monday’s assembly draw:
Jordan Cowley (Rm 3); Blake Williams (Rm 2); Sean Riley (Rm 8)
Soccer Fixture
Below are the draws for 3 June:
