Dear Parents
Top Team
Last Friday, we had a team of Year 10 students competing in a Blue Light Top Team competition. The team did really well, coming fourth overall in a field of 12. The team writes:
In the warm ups, we did relays and had to push tyres, which Amber and Jahdean found really difficult!! The next activity saw Evie being carried on a stretcher – unfortunately she fell through the tyres! In the water based activity, Letitia had some trouble following instructions and Atreyu had a bad fall.
All the activities were great and we really enjoyed ourselves. We were able to do well and Evie ended up with a special prize. The team was Amber, Atreyu, Corey, Ben, Danielle, Evie, Letitia, Chanelle, Mikayla and Jahdean.
Book Fair
Well done!!! The Book Fair was very successful, thanks to terrific parental support. A special thank you to the many who donated books to the library. As well as donations we get back a percentage of the takings and our library received over $650 worth of new books. This is a terrific effort and well worth the time that was devoted to this event.
Many thanks to Mr Goodman, who spent many extra hours devoted to the Book Fair.
Soccer Tournament
Next week, on Wednesday 10 June, we are having a soccer tournament. This is an event held with our students from Years 4, 5 and 6 and is the culmination of a coaching process in conjunction with the senior sports leader class.
The tournament will be held on the rugby fields and will start at 1pm. Parents are very welcome to come and support a team.
Parents Survey
The New Zealand Curriculum survey which was sent out last week needs to be sent back to school tomorrow to enable the collating to occur.
School Speech Contest
The results of the school speech contest, held on Wednesday, are as follows:
Junior Section:
1. Petra Lorimer Let your kids have a childhood
2. Jackie Andrews NZ is the best country
3. Finn O’Keeffe Leave those trees alone!
Year 7/8 section:
1. Abbey Austin Stop – don’t open it!
2. Emma Carey Animal Cruelty brought about by scientific experiments.
3. Heidi Grainger Big cats belong in the jungle – not on poacher’s backs.
Senior section:
1. Bryn Jenkins Is nuclear power right for NZ?
2. Erin Hancox Is it tough being tall?
We would like to thank the judges for this competition, Mrs Claire Williams and Mr Bruce Goodman. Both judges commented on the difficulty with this task as the standard was so high and the students were all very close to each other in the quality of their speeches.
Petra and Abbey are now entered in the Franklin Speechmaking contest and will compete next week.
