Dear Parents
Staffing
This week we welcomed Miss Penny Dorizac into the school. Miss Dorizac will be working in Room 7 with Miss Caldwell for the next seven weeks of this term.
An invitation
Next week, we will be providing a day long workshop for all our students from Year 11 to 13. This workshop is entitled, Studying for Success, and is presented by The Art of Learning. This will take place next Wednesday, 12 August. We have done this before with excellent reports from participants.
To follow up this workshop, parents are invited to attend an evening session with the same presenters so that the messages given to the students can be reinforced at home.
Updating information
Could all parents please ensure that the contact information we hold here is accurate and up to date. We have already had some instances this week when we have tried to contact parents only to find that numbers have changed or have been discontinued.
A call to the office, or a quick visit would be really useful.
Garden Project
I would like to invite your support in our garden project. If you have any spare garden implements, we could make good use of them. We are after forks, spades, trowels, hoes, rakes, wheelbarrows and watering cans. We would also like to be able to source top soil, ready to go compost, seed trays, seeds and seedlings and any fruit trees. Any donations in this area would be appreciated and help us to make the limited funds we have go further. As we get this project started, we welcome visitors to the school to check on our progress.

Recently, the Year 7/8 camp fundraisers sold raffle tickets to support their camp funds. The draw was made on Friday last and the winners were:

Jenny Wrigley - small gift basket
Nicole Williamson - tools
Jenny Simpson - riding gear
Josh McDonald - ˝ sheep
Edwina Hickford - electrical pack
Grace Mooney - sports bag
In addition, these students are to be congratulated for each selling in excess of $80 worth of tickets: Celine Fenton, Margot Strydom, Kristi Spicer and Ceilidh Jenkins. The raffle raised more than $1000 for the camp.
Cross Country
We are well into the season for cross country running and we have two events coming up in the next two weeks. The first is the school event, which will take place next Friday, August 14, starting at 1pm. The start and finish lines will be on the front field at school and the course itself will use the farmland next to the school. All parents are very welcome to attend this event.
Following that there will be the River Group event which will take place in the domain area, starting from the Rugby Club. This will be on Wednesday 19 August, and will involved students from Years 4 to 6.
For that event, the PTA will be running a stall to sell hot food and drink. We welcome volunteers for this and would ask anyone who could volunteer a 30 minute stint or so, to please leave their names at the office. Funds raised that day will go towards the provision of junior school readers.
