Dear Parents
Cross Country
REMINDER:
School cross country
Tomorrow, August 14
starting at 1pm
The start and finish on the front field at school and the course itself will use the farmland next to the school. All parents are very welcome to attend this event.
Following that there will be the River Group event which will take place in the domain area, starting from the Rugby Club at 11:15am. This will be on Wednesday 19 August, and will involved students from Years 4 to 6.
For that event, the PTA will be running a stall to sell hot food and drink. We welcome volunteers for this and would ask anyone who could volunteer a 30 minute stint or so, to please leave their names at the office. Funds raised that day will go towards the provision of junior school readers.
Please note that Parson Rd between the tennis courts and the school houses will be used as part of the course and that traffic restrictions will be in effect from 11:15am to 1:15pm
Greenie Awards
The following students gained a lunch voucher from Monday’s assembly draw:
Jessica Clauson (Year 10)
Jacinta Moana (Yr 6 Room 7)
Canteen Weekly Special
The special for the week to Thurs 20 August is - Vegetarian Quiche cost $3.00
Mufti-day
It is proposed to hold a mufti-day on Friday 28 August. The theme will be black and white and the funds raised through the gold coin donation will go to support the netball teams. This day has been chosen because the Silver Ferns will be playing in Auckland the following day against a World 7. This will the third of three games against this team.
Soccer
The tournaments for this year are now finished. The girls played their last game last week (which they won!) and the boys were due to play their last also last week. The opposition defaulted the game and this week we have a bye. The final results will be available after today’s other games.
In the meantime, there are soccer fees that are still outstanding. Parents have been sent an invoice ($35) and any payments still outstanding must be paid by the end of next week.
The players have all been given raffle tickets to sell, and again these need to be collected back in by the end of next week so that a draw can be made.
Mathex Competition
We have been blessed this year with three groups of teams in the Mathex competition. On Monday night the Year 5/6 teams and the Year 7/8 teams competed, while the Year 9/10 teams competed on Tuesday night.
The teams competed well, all finishing in the middle of the field against some very fierce competition. The team members all enjoyed themselves.
Congratulations to our competitors and their coaches.
AFS – host families wanted
The AFS organisation is again calling for host families. There are currently 14 students arriving from overseas who have yet to be placed with host families. There is a range of countries represented – Germany, France, Denmark, Kong Kong, Russia, Austria and the Czech Republic – amongst the group of 9 boys and 5 girls. For further information contact the local hosting co-ordinator (Sue Walsham 238 9223 or Email), or view the photos and details here
Hosting is a very rewarding experience for both the host family and the hosted student. It is well worth the effort.
