Dear Parents

Athletics Day

Our annual Athletics Day will be held on Friday November 6. The day will start at 9am and will take all day. This event is run as a standards based day, especially in the field events, which means that all students get the chance to gain success and therefore points for their house.

Students are encouraged to wear house colours for the day and may come to school in house colours.

On the day, the junior school field events will be held on the top field by the Early Childhood Centre, with the exception of the long jump. All senior (Yr 7+) field events and junior long jump will be on the lower field in front of the school. All track events are to be held on the front field.

The organisation of the day has the boys doing track events in the morning, while the girls are on field events. In the afternoon, the order is reversed.

During the lunch break, there will be hot dogs for sale. These will cost $2.50 each and funds are going to support the Year 5/6 camp next week.

Franklin Primary School’s Music Festival

The final music practice is on Monday Nov 9 at 9am.

Reminder: Our choir will be performing on two nights – Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 and 11 of November at the Pukekohe Town Hall. (Not 11th and 12th as in last week’s newsletter) Tickets for this performance have to be pre-purchased and orders can be placed at the school office. Tickets are $5 each for adults and young children (up to Year 8) who are not in the choir are $2 each.

Ticket money must be received by November 4, and the tickets will be available here in school on Nov 9.

Congratulations

To Georgia Whitworth, who gained a number of ribbons at our Calf Club Day and then went on to win more at the Group Day and capped off that performance by coming fifth at the Waikato A&P show on Saturday last. Georgia was competing with a jersey calf called Feijoa.

Franklin Primary Schools Push/Play Marathon

As part of the Push/Play campaign in Franklin, our Year 1 to 8 students have been working on improving physical fitness and achieving personal success by running a few laps each day over eight to ten weeks, with the goal of reaching 40 km by the end of the programme.

There is a $5 entry fee to cover the cost of the medal and the school will be taking entries from November 1st to 15th.

There is a $500 sports voucher for the school with the most entries (calculated on participation to school size ratio) and a $500 spot prize.

Our teachers are keeping a record of the distance run by each student each day and monitoring progress towards the 40km goal.

Entry fees for this programme are new payable and are due on Friday this week. A separate letter is being sent home about this.

Hats at school

While hats are now compulsory in school for our students Yr 1 to 6, there has been a hold up in the supply, especially of caps. With the Athletics Day approaching, we will accept students wearing any suitable hat rather than insisting on the school hat.
