Dear Parents,

Rebecca Martin
Miss Rebecca Martin
September 29, 2009

As many of you will be aware, the recent tsunami in Samoa took the life of Miss Martin, who taught here in 2007 and 2008. The school community is struggling to come to terms with this tragic event. A group of staff members travelled to Matamata last Saturday to attend the funeral and were able to speak to the family and convey the deepest sympathies of the school and community.

We are aware though that many of the community would also like to be able to make their own tribute, in memory of Rebecca and her time with us.

There are two ways in which that can be done. Firstly, there is a website that has been set up where people can record their tribute in their own way. These messages will be seen by the family. The website is www.tributes.co.nz.

The second way is that we are putting together a memorial book which will be sent to the family when it is complete. We will be making a facility available through the library for people – staff, students, parents and members of the community to record their own messages. Please take advantage of this if you wish to record your own message.

If parents want to collect students during the day to bring animals to school, students will be available from 1:00pm.

Any animals brought to school in the morning will be tethered in the horse paddock (near the Early Childhood Centre.

There is a need for two more stewards, due to the large number of entries we have. Any offers will be welcome – please contact the school and leave your name with office staff.
