Dear Parents
Diana (Di) Patricia Carter
It was with considerable sorrow that we learnt on Monday of the sudden death of Di Carter. Di was a teacher at this school over a number of years, fulfilling part-time and relieving duties, particularly in the Science area of the senior school. She was a very valued member of the school team and after her retirement, continued to take on prominent roles in the community. Di was a well loved and respected member of our whole community and will be sadly missed. Our deepest sympathies and condolences are extended to Mike, Rob, Sally, Josephine, Sophie and Bonnie.
Respect
At this week’s assembly, the following students were presented with certificates recognising the respect they have demonstrated:
Emma McArley: for the display of good manners and responsiveness in class.
Letitia Moana: for the way she deals with others, especially in relation to her bus duties.
AFS Student hosting
The AFS organisation is keen to place at least one of two students in this area on a short term stay. Both students are boys and come from France. The boys will be in New Zealand from July to September and are 15 years of age.
The hosting experience is very rewarding for both hosts and the students involved as both learn a lot about the others culture. More information is available from the school or from the AFS website.
Art Of Learning
On May 3, we are holding a seminar for Year 11 students. The seminar is called “NCEA Success” and is designed to assist students in their quest to make the year successful academically.
The seminar will take all day and will be followed by two seminars for parents of Year 11 students. Parents are urged to attend one of these two one-hour sessions, and to take the chance to talk with the teachers about student progress. More detailed information will be sent by letter.

School Production
The school production this year is "Follow That Rabbit". It is based on the story of Alice in Wonderland. We are looking for some people who would be prepared to help with some sewing of costumes. Could you please contact the school office if you would be prepared to give us some assistance in this area. We are also looking for an old sleeping bag, preferably blue.
Canteen Weekly Special
The special for the week Mon 3 May to Thursday 6 May is Macaroni Cheese - cost $3.00
School Squash Team
A number of students in the senior school have been practicing with Mr Phillips on a Thursday afternoon at the Rugby Club for the past year and have shown good development of their squash skills. We have entered a team in the counties Manukau College Sport Squash Competition and their first game was on Monday afternoon against Sacred Heart. The result was a 2 all draw. A good start to the season.

Pukekohe Family looking to Carpool
We live in Pukekohe and have 1 daughter ( aged 15 ) at Onewhero Area School. We are looking for another Pukekohe family who could carpool with us (ideally Thia would be taking our daughter and we’ll share the petrol costs, as we have a backseat taken up with child carseats, so very limited room) but we’re open to discussing different ways that this could be mutually beneficial. Please Phone Jacqui asap on 2392524 or 0277334084.
