Dear Parents

Staffing

Last week Miss Katharine Smythe resigned from her position as teacher, following a period of illness. We have appointed Mr David Legge as a long term reliever in Room 9.

Respect

At this week’s assembly, the following students were presented with certificates recognising the respect they have demonstrated:

Brandon Ward (Yr 13): displaying respect to his working area and to others around him.
Emily Wang: displaying respect for equipment and others around her, especially through her manners.

My apologies

The following names were left off the newsletter last week by mistake.
The students were awarded Respect certificates at last week’s assembly:

Cordell Hingaia-Hoete (Yr 3 R4): respecting peers and his learning environment.
Jordan Stephens (Yr 4 R5): Polite and showing respect by listening to others.
Quintrelle Parata (Yr 3 R5): waiting her turn and helping others
Jemimah Elley (Yr 6 R10): Respectful of everyone else and their opinions.

AFS Student hosting

The AFS organisation is keen to place at least one of two students in this area on a short term stay. Both students are boys and come from France. The boys will be in New Zealand from July to September and are 15 years of age.

The hosting experience is very rewarding for both hosts and the students involved as both learn a lot about the others culture. More information is available from the school or from the AFS website.

PTA

At the recent PTA meeting, the decision was taken to proceed with a gala day this year. Planning for that is now underway and a group of people who are prepared to help with that is being organised. Please read carefully the attached newsletter
and indicate where you can help.

Raglan Sport’s exchange

Tomorrow, Friday, we are hosting a team from Raglan Area School in what we will hope will be the beginning of an annual exchange between our two schools. Raglan is similar in size to Onewhero and we are looking forward to a good afternoon of sport and fun.

The visitors will be welcomed at 11am in the hall, and the games will start immediately after that. Lunch is at 1:00pm and will last for just 30 minutes. The day ends with a shared afternoon tea at about 2pm, after which our guests will depart.

All parents and supporters are welcome to come along and share in the fun of the day.

Canteen Weekly Special

The special for the week Mon 17 May to Thursday 20 May is Nachos – cost $3.00
Sausage rolls are now available at the canteen –cost $1.50

Greenie Awards

The names drawn from the box this week are Katana Foster and Ricky Bingham. Katana is in Year 9 and Ricky is in Year 6 Room 7. Each win a canteen voucher.

School Speech Contest

As you will be aware the students are all busy right now preparing speeches in their classes. Over the next week each class will choose their best speakers and then the finalists from each area of the school will be chosen. These finalists will present their speeches to the whole school on the afternoon of Tuesday 25 May, starting at 1pm. Parents are invited to attend this event and see the results of all the hard work.
