On Thursday 5 August, we will be hosting the mid year parent interview sessions for 2010. Please complete the form in this newsletter and return it to school by Tuesday 27th July. Confirmation slips will be sent to you either Monday 2nd or Tuesday 3rd August.
Staffing
We welcome to the school Mrs Goudie-Park, who will working three days a week in the junior school to do teacher release. Mrs Goudie-Park replaces Mr Brent West who left us at the end of last term after being accepted into a training course at the last minute.
School production
Many thanks to all staff, cast, back stage crew and parents who helped to make our school production so successful. All three performances were well received, with some people even seeing the show twice. Special thanks to Ms Caldwell and Mr Jordan who guided the production through all its stages.
Calf Club
The Calf Club committee raffle is still running. Tickets ($2 each) available from the school office. The prize is to be a calf cover and a bag of milk powder. This will close soon – be in now to secure your ticket!!
Chickens will be available tomorrow, Friday 23rd July. Could all students who ordered chickens please bring a named box to school to leave in the office tomorrow morning. Chickens are to be collected at 3pm.
As students start the process of getting a calf for Calf Club, please take note of the breed of the animal. This information will be requested on the entry form. For cross breed calves, the sire (father) is the breed we go by. This information is used to classify the calves into competition groups on the day and at Group Day.
Could all Group Day trophies please be returned to school by August 24. They need to be collected for taking to the next venue.
The Calf Club Committee has an offer for well-made calf covers, lamb leads and collars. Information is available in the office and will be published in full next week.

Free Music Lessons!
There is a new opportunity to learn a rare and unusual instrument at Onewhero Area School. From the beginning of Term 3 students will be able to learn the Northumbrian Smallpipes in a lunchtime (Break2) session on Wednesdays.
Loan instruments are available. Classes will include basic music theory and some background information about the instrument.
Students need to make a commitment to practice for around ten minutes per day, regularly attend the classes and take care of the instruments.
Once this class is established an after-school class will be available for the wider community.
Those interested please contact Ms Capes Rm 14
Healthy Lifestyle Survey
Onewhero Area School has been invited to take part in a survey funded by the Ministry of Health in August/September this year, and some of our students will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about their lifestyle, the things that they do, what things they are interested in, and some health-related questions.
It is important to note that participation is voluntary, and students will be given the opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to take part. Everything they write is confidential and anonymous, and they will not be asked for any identifying information (e.g. they won’t be asked for their name, date of birth etc). Information will be handled in a secure and safe way.
If you have any questions about this survey you can contact the Research Manager: Nicola Legge, Synovate, by phone 09 538 0500 or e-mail.
Lost
Towards the end of last term, did you find 2 homeless DVDs, Alvin and the Chipmunks 2- the Sqeakquell and Barbie in a Mermaid Tale. If so, a young birthday girl would love you to drop them in at the office so they can be reunited.
