Dear Parents

Reports and reporting

I would like to sincerely thank all those parents who took the time and trouble to complete our survey form with regard to the new report format.

The overwhelming response was very positive and supported the changes we have made. At the same time there were some very important and relevant comments made by way of constructive criticism. These comments will be taken on board as we complete the review process within the school.

A number of comments received have revolved around the expectation levels for the students. One of the important points here is that this is a nationally set expectation, representing where the student should be at, at this stage of his/her education. However, as at July, there are still 6 months for the student to reach that level if they are not already there.

There will be more opportunities to learn about the national Standards and what they mean for all of us over the coming months.

Parents can access the standards themselves here.

Participation

At the assembly this week, the following students were presented with a certificate recognising their participation in school activities:

Ricki Beattie (Yr 12) for participation in his learning especially in Sport Leader, English, Maths and Science.
Rebecca Stokes (Yr 10) for participation in whole school and community events.
Caryn Strang (Yr 9) for participation in whole school events.

Year 10 Spirit of Adventure Team

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Jim Smyth of Tuakau Quality Meats for cutting and packing the Pig that was raffled back in June. Please remember to make the effort to support those who support our school.

Canteen Weekly Special

The special for the week of Monday 16 August to Thursday 19 August is Pumpkin soup and a roll cost $3.00

Please Note The canteen cannot run a credit facility for students, sales are to be cash only. This means that as parents you are not able to just send a note for lunches saying you will pay at a later date. Please be aware that if money is not included with the lunch order, the order will not be filled.

Student Council School Spirit Award

This week in assembly Bryn Jenkins on behalf of the student council presented the first School Spirit Award. This award is decided by the student council and can be presented to any student who displays exceptional school spirit. The first award was given to Nakita Marx Year 4. Last term Nakita presented to the student council an idea to get involved with the That’s Life Win a Carnival for your school competition, and although the school didn’t win, we received a subscription to the That’s Life magazine.

Well Done

Emma Carey won 2nd place at Showfields Equestrian Centre in the preliminary dressage on Sunday with a score of 73.6%.

Greenie Awards

The names drawn from the box this week were Rhian Strang and Liam Weston (both Year 7, Rm 17). Liam and Rhian both win a canteen voucher each.

NCEA Fees

These need to be paid in full by 27th August. If you need to apply for financial assistance complete the form sent to you recently and return to Mrs Carter as soon as possible.
