Dear Parents

Hats

With the coming of the good weather and the approach of summer, it is appropriate to remind parents that the policy of the school is that all students must wear hats as protection from the fierce New Zealand sun. The Onewhero Area School hat is available from the school office.

All hats need to be named clearly. Students who do not have a hat to wear will be required to spend the break times under trees.

Jump Rope for Heart

This year we are actively supporting the Heart Foundation through the Jump Rope programme. This involves having students sponsored to participate in a programme of organised physical activity which will involve lots of skipping.

Forms will be coming home with students this week to enable students to begin the process of gathering sponsors.

In two weeks time, on Friday 12 November, the whole school will be involved in a tabloids type afternoon, which will honour the sponsorship commitment. In house teams, the students will complete a number of activities. While the sponsorship part of this programme is up to parents, all the students, regardless of the level of sponsorship, will be participating in the day as a part of our healthy fitness programmes.

The activities will start at about 1pm and run for the afternoon. Parents are welcome to attend.

Athletics Sports

The date for our Athletics has been set for Friday November 5. The day will start at 9am and will go all day. This is a day where all the students participate in track and field events and where the field events are based on a standards system.

This means that all students gain credit for their performance.

The day is divided into two sections, so that while the boys are on the track and competing in running races, the girls are all on the field. In the afternoon, the reverse occurs with the boys in the field and the girls on the track.

All parents are most welcome to attend all or part of this day, to support the students in their endeavours.

Integrity Awards

As there was no assembly this week, there were no awards presented. The students identified this week will be recognised next week.

Congratulations

Our school Equestrian team have again performed very well. Last Friday, the team of Abbey Austin, Hester Gerrand, Kirsty Wagstaff and Brooke Caie travelled to St Peter’s College in Cambridge and competed in the North Island Mounted Games Championship. Our team competed in Division 2 and were placed second. This is a really good result from this young team. Well done girls!
