Dear Parents

PTA

Following the very successful gala day, it has been decided to spend some of the money raised to help to meet some immediate needs.

To that end, each section of the school (Junior, Middle, and Senior) have each been given $1000. This money will be spent on reading resources in those sections of the school.

Our grateful thanks to the Gala Day committee for their hard work and for the community for their support.

Jump Rope for Heart

This year we are actively supporting the Heart Foundation through the Jump Rope programme. This involves having students sponsored to participate in a programme of organised physical activity which will involve lots of skipping.

Forms will be coming home with students this week to enable students to begin the process of gathering sponsors.

In two weeks time, on Friday 12 November, the whole school will be involved in a tabloids type afternoon, which will honour the sponsorship commitment. In house teams, the students will complete a number of activities. While the sponsorship part of this programme is up to parents, all the students, regardless of the level of sponsorship, will be participating in the day as a part of our healthy fitness programmes.

The activities will start at about 1pm and run for the afternoon. Parents are welcome to attend.

Athletics Sports

The date for our Athletics has been set for Friday November 5. The day will start at 9am and will go all day.

The day is divided into two sections, so that while the boys are on the track and competing in running races, the girls are all on the field. In the afternoon, the reverse occurs with the boys in the field and the girls on the track.

All parents are most welcome to attend all or part of this day, to support the students in their endeavours.

Careers Link

For those parents or students interested there is a link on the school website located under learning links that holds a newsletter from Careers Services. You will find all sorts of useful information, tips and further links on subject choice, careers decision making, Tertiary study and funding, beating exam stress etc. This online newsletter gets updated every two months.

OAS Equestrian Team

The school has fielded a team this year for the first time in both show hunter mounted games and showjumping events which have been held at St Peter’s School in Cambridge. The four riders involved have achieved some great results and the supporters are looking for sponsorship for the team to purchase a set of gear for four that would remain at the school and be used for future events by riders. The items would include the following and where feasible will be purchased in OAS colours with the school logo added:

• ¾ sleeve shirts for the riders
• saddle blankets
• halters and lead ropes
• light dress rugs
• helmet covers

To date we have had Profarm at Tuakau donate $200. We are extremely grateful and would encourage members of the community to acknowledge this by supporting the local Tuakau store. Gallagher have also provided a Gallagher Smartfix Fence Tester – retail $231 incl GST and we would like to invite bids from community members on that unit to raise money to purchase items as above. If you need further information on the unit then contact Leah at Profarm in Tuakau. Thankyou to Gallagher for the donation.

For any questions and to place bids, please contact Alex Young at the school.
