COPYRIGHT POLICY

(National Administration Guideline 6 - Legislation)


RATIONALE

The school will comply with the Copyright Act with respect to the use of musical scores, videos, books, films, Computer applications and other materials protected by copyright.

PURPOSE

1. To ensure the school complies with the Copyright Act 1994.

GUIDELINES

1. All staff including ancillary staff are to be informed of the sections of the Copyright Act as they apply to educational institutions and of the conditions of any copyright licence that the school subscribes to.

2. The school will take out such licenses as it sees fit and will comply with the conditions described in these licenses. These will include print and music licenses. If the school is copying video or television programmes then these licenses may also be included.

3. The school will take out licenses for all computer applications it uses across the school. The Ministry of Education funds Microsoft applications and the school will ensure it applies annually for such licenses. Licenses for the server software will also be included.

4. Individual staff members will be personally liable for any breaches of the Copyright Act. Any staff member or student who knowingly downloads software that requires a licence and does not purchase that licence will be personally liable for any costs incurred in a prosecution. Onewhero Area School supports copyright licensing and will not condone piracy in any form.

5. All photocopiers will have the general provisions of the Act displayed as they relate to the school.
