Policy Student Exchange

STUDENT EXCHANGE

Rationale:

Onewhero Area School is implementing this policy to ensure that all applications for fixed-period enrolment at the school under student exchange programs are treated fairly and equitably, and to outline various fees, costs and conditions of attendance associated with the enrolment of exchange students at the School.

Purposes:

Onewhero Area School welcomes all exchange students to apply for enrolment opportunities. Where possible the school will accommodate enrolment for a year or term by term.

The school is committed to provide an opportunity for all children to become members of the school community, regardless of their religious, ethnic or social background, abilities and interests.

Guidelines:

1. It is expected that all students will actively participate in each part of the school program including co-curricular programs.

2. All students enrolled at school will be expected to participate in the school curriculum, and to reside with their host families/guardians during their time at the school.

3. Exchange students are to provide the school with full contact details and must complete a medical form prior to commencement. All personal details provided will be treated in accordance with the school Privacy Policy.

4. Exchange may not be possible:

• if there are no spaces available in the requested class(es);
• if the child's participation requires special services, facilities or resources which cannot reasonably be made available;
• if the child or other students are placed at physical or emotional risk;
• where the Principal believes that participation in classes will not further benefit the child or will significantly restrict the education of other students.

5. The Principal reserves the right to make the final decision on all place offers given to exchange students.

6. The Principal may require the removal of an exchange student from the school as a consequence of a serious breach of discipline or if, in the Principal’s sole discretion, this is necessary for the good order or reputation of the school.
