SELF REVIEW POLICYOnewhero Area School Policy (National Administration Guideline 2) RATIONALE National Administration Guideline 2 requires that every school should maintain an on-going programme of self-review. For Onewhero Area School, self review is: the way the Board identifies, assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of the school in meeting the values we have adopted, fulfilling our obligations to the community and providing the education we want for our students. a process of improving the quality education we offer our students. Self-review is the starting point for School Review and will be explained in that context. PURPOSES 1. To ensure that the outcomes of evaluation of systems, policies, processes and programmes results in improved learning outcomes for students and the raising of student achievement. 2. To ensure that the school considers that needs and aspirations of the school community in regards to its operations. 3. To ensure that decisions made in the school are based on reliable data. GUIDELINES 1. Each year the Board will review its strategic plan as a result of review findings. 2. Each year the Board will approve a School Operational plan for the year. 3. The staff, the Board and the community will have input into this plan, which will be developed by the senior management team of the school. 4. The teaching staff of the school will be responsible for the review of the learning and teaching programmes. 5. The aim of the review of teaching and learning programmes is to raise student achievement. 6. A report will be presented to the Board outlining the outcomes of the review. This will assist the Board in decision making and allocation of resources. 7. There will be an annual review of curriculum outlined in the School Operational Plan. 8. The Board will review policies as part of a regular annual review cycle to ensure their ongoing effectiveness. 9. The Board will reflect on its own practices of decision-making, resource allocation and implementation, and consider any changes to be made as a result. 10. The Board will report to the community in the Annual Report on the outcomes of the School Operations Plan. 11. Each year the Board will identify a review that is responsive to the needs of at least one of the stakeholder groups - parents, caregivers, whanau, Board of Trustees, staff and students regarding the climate/culture of the school. Documentation and Review Each Board of Trustees with the principal and teaching staff is required to: (i) develop a strategic plan which documents how they are giving effect to the National Education Guidelines through their policies, plans and programmes, including those for curriculum, assessment and staff professional development; (ii) maintain an ongoing programme of self review in relation to the above policies, plans and programme, including evaluation of information on student achievement; (iii) report to the students and their parents on the achievement of individual students, and to the school's community on the achievement of students as a whole and of groups (identified through 1iii above), including the achievement of Maori students against the plans and targets referred to in 1v above.
