OAS Staff Appointments Policy OAS Staff Appointments Policy

STAFF APPOINTMENTS

N.B. This policy is administered in conjunction with the Board's Personnel Policy (National Administration Guideline 3)

PURPOSE:

To staff the school according to its needs, to follow fair, thorough and consistent appointment procedures, and to select the most suitable people available.

GUIDELINES:

1. The School's teaching, curriculum, pastoral and administrative needs and staffing entitlements are identified before advertising a position.
2. Appointment procedures and decisions are conducted in ways consistent with the school's Personnel Policy.
3. The Board, after consultation with staff and community, takes full responsibility for the appointment of principal.
4. For all other permanent positions, a delegated board member and the senior management recommend all appointments subject to confirmation by the Board.
5. The school will have a set of procedures, approved by the board annually, that will be used when making appointments.

RELIEF STAFF:

The principal is responsible for recruiting, selecting and appointing short term relief staff (that is, nonpermanent positions for less than one year). All such appointments are reported to the monthly meeting of the Board. The principal is responsible for engaging day to day relief staff; this function may be delegated to appropriate staff. In the event that a suitable relief teacher is not available or budgeted funds for relievers are exhausted, the principal will make internal arrangements for teaching programmes which may include the principal's involvement in teaching.

BEGINNING TEACHERS:

The principal is responsible for the induction, training, supervision, guidance and assessment of beginning teachers, and the appointment of suitable co-ordinator to support this work.
